24 April 2009

Dear Fellow Comrades,

The biggest news this month is that Betty (Hoppie) had her knee replacement surgery on the 20th and she came on the 23rd. I am now her official “Goe-for”. I told her she did not have to do any yard work until next week-end as I still have to make some kind of attachments to carry her walker when she mows the yard and tills the garden. It is supposed to rain this weekend anyway.  I’m such a nice guy? Ha Ha. Betty is now home and doing well, we are hoping for a speedy recovery so she can attend all the upcoming meetings in June with me.

This month we held elections for the upcoming year. Commander Ben (Walking Eagle) will be taking the reigns again for another year. Terry McNitt will be our new Senior Vice Commander and I will be moving down to Junior Vice Commander. Other wise, the officers will remain about the same for another year. We plan on holding installation of our new officers at our May meeting.

At this months meeting, it was decided that we would like to try holding our monthly meeting one hour earlier. All members present voted on it and starting at our May meeting we will meet at 7:00 PM instead of 8:00PM. If it works out, we will make it official starting in July 09.

Don’t forget, we will be holding our Poppy Drive on 02 May. All members who can assist this year meet at the Veterans Center at 8:30 AM. Thank go to Tom Puig. He has completed distributing plaques to local businesses. We will need as many members as possible to assist this year. Lets have a good turn out of members.

The 9th District Spring Conference will be held on 09 May in Altoona. Currently Ben, Herb, Pete and I will be attending. We can also call in reservations if someone else would like to attend.

All of the National Guard Units from our area have completed their training in Texas and are now deploying to Iraq. I am currently working on a list of members who have special skills and would like to be available to help if the need would arise. (Plumbing, electrical, auto repairs, etc) Please let me know if you are willing to assist.

9th District is still in 2nd place this month. We are currently at 95.81% and we need 172 members to reach our 100% membership goal. Post 2204 is leading the district with 109.73% and no unpaid members. We can still sign up a couple more and break 110%.

The VFW Department Convention will be held 24-27 June in Eau Claire. It would be a great opportunity for members who have never attended a Department Convention to attend and see what happens at Department Level and meet fellow comrades from around the state. We will discuss it more at our May meeting.

Our prayers go out to Duane Wittmann and other sick veterans. Hope you all have a speedy recovery.  Also our prayers go out the family of our Past Auxiliary President Ilene Knutson who passed away this month.

**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.

Hi Comrades,

We had another great meeting this month and it was nice to see a few more new members attending. We gained one new member Debora Stoeberl and also four more transfers this month. Our newest transfers are Robert Clark (Stone Lake), Hal Helwig (Stone Lake), Kelly Parks (Hayward) and William Dryer (Kimberly). Welcome aboard and we hope to see you at our May meeting.

The 4th District Spring Conference was held in Rice Lake on 18 April 2009. We had a great turn out with 6 of 7 chapters in the district present. The noon meal was also fantastic. Thanks to Greg and Cynthia Saylor for cooking such a great meal for us. Needless to say no one went home hungry. We did very well on our raffle this year and every member present went home with something. Thanks go to Bill Dent, Bob Karpenske and Jerry Hazlewood for taking the time and effort to obtain donated door prizes for the chapter.

At our April meeting, we did hold election of officers for the year. It is nice to see a few members step forward and hold an office for the upcoming year. The officers for 2009-2010 are;

    Commander – Ben Anderson
Sr. Vice Commander – Clyde Shipman
Jr. Vice Commander – Debora Stoeberl
    Treasurer/Adjutant – John Fredrickson
    Chaplin – Bill Dent
    3-year trustee – Delbert Ekenstedt
    Legislative Officer – Lenny Shier
    Service Officer – Tom Johnson
    Membership Chairman – Terry McNitt

The DAV Department Convention will be held in Appleton, WI on 11-13 June 2009. Several chapter members will once again be attending the Convention. If you are interested in attending, be at our May meeting. We will need to know at that time who is planning on attending so we can send in the registration information to department.

Our prayers go out to Duane Wittman and Walter Amundson We hope you all have a speedy recovery. If you know of any other member who is sick, please contact our Chaplin Bill Dent so we can send a little sunshine their way.

Remember all our men and women serving all over the world to keep us safe. Say a big prayer for each and every one of them. May they all come home safe. God bless each and every one of you.
