20 March 2009
Dear Fellow Comrades,
I guess the biggest news this month is that Post 2204 Youth Essay Winner Sarah Mattes came in 1st place in Wisconsin and 6th place in National Level Competition. She will be will be receiving $4000.00 in bonds and a plaque at the VFW Department Convention to be held in June in Eau Claire. She will also be attending the 9th District Conference to receive her 9th District Awards. If you happen to see her, please congratulate her on this great achievement. We will be presenting the post awards at a later date.
If you didn’t attend the March meeting, we held nomination of officers for the upcoming year. We will be holding elections at our April meeting. If you would like to hold an office, please be at our next meeting. We will open up nominations prior to elections, just in case someone else would like to hold an office. So far it looks like the same officers as this year.
At our February meeting, it was decided that we would hold our Poppy Drive on 02 May. Tom Puig has started distributing plaques to local business this month. We will need as many members as possible to assist this year. We will decide at our April meeting what time we will start.
9th District Spring Conference will be held on 09 May in Altoona. If you would like to attend, we will need to know at our April meeting.
All of the National Guard Units from our area are now in Texas for training prior to deploying to Iraq. It is now time for all members to help those who are left behind to assist them if any special needs do come up during their spouse’s deployment. I would like to get a list of members who have special skills and would like to be available to help if the need would arise. (Plumbing, electrical, auto repairs, etc) Please let me know if you are willing to assist.
9th District is still in 2nd place this month. We are currently at 95.23% and we need 194 members to reach our 100% membership goal. Post 2204, is at 103.54% with 7 members who have yet to pay their yearly dues. Maybe we can hit 110.00% this year. Remember, if you have not paid your dues, you will not be able to vote at meetings.
The VFW Department Convention will be held 24-27 June in Eau Claire. It would be a great opportunity for members who have never attended a Department Convention to attend and see what happens at Department Level and meet fellow comrades from around the state. We will discuss it more at our April meeting.
Our prayers go out to Duane Wittmann and other sick veterans. Hope you all have a speedy recovery.
**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.
