16 December 2008

Dear Fellow Comrades,

If you missed our annual VFW Christmas Party in December, you missed out on a lot of great food and comradeship.  Would you believe we had 25 members & guests attending this year’s party? Our special guests were Mike DeRosa & Gene Hatfield from Burger King.  After the meal, they presented the VFW with a check for the Chippewa Valley UNMETS Needs Fund. This donation will really help for our local Army Nation Guard Troops getting ready to deploy in February.

9th District is still in the lead in the state for membership at 91.9%. I only hope we can keep it up and reach out 100% membership goal soon. Our Post 2204 still needs 8 more members and we will be 100%. We still have several members who have not yet paid their 2009 dues. If you have not, remember, you will not be able to vote at our January meeting.

The 9th District Mid-Winter Conference is schedules for 24 January at Altoona Post 10405. Ben, Herb and I will all be attending. If any other member would also like to attend, please let Tom Puig know right away so he can send in the money for registration and the meal. I should have a little room in my truck if any member needs a ride.

On 06 December, our post (Ben, Sam, Duane, Pete & Marge Breed & Betty and I) presented member of the Rice Lake Nation Guard with a little holiday cheer. All members were present a Christmas tray with candy & nut. All married members were given a food basket of ham, turkey, roast beef, hamburger, potatoes, pumpkin pie and vegetables. (Thanks to Market Place Food, Jennie-O Turkey, Nuto Farms & Millerman Farms) All single members received free pizzas (Pizza Hut) and Whoppers (Burger King) and discount coupons from Applebee’s, Adventure’s Restaurant, Great Clips, Hardee’s and Culvers. We also present food baskets to the various recruiters in Rice Lake.

On the night of 06 December, Pete & Marge Breed, Betty and I attend the Christmas Party for the Chippewa Falls National Guard Unit. Both Pete & I talked to the unit regarding the VFW & Chippewa Valley UNMET Needs Programs. We had a great time and some great food. Only problem was there were too many in ARMY Dress Uniforms for me. To bad they couldn’t be wearing NAVY Dress Blues.

Betty and I have been invited to attend the Christmas Party at Klein Hall (VA Homeless Center) in Chippewa Falls on 20 December. We are looking forward to attending, I just hope we have good weather or we will have to cancel.

The results are back from district for the Youth Essay Program. I am happy to announce that our posts (2204) first place entry also took first place in district. Our first place winner is Sarah Mattes. Our 2nd place winner is Anna Kurzyski & 3rd place is Allison Gargulak. We will be presenting them with our post awards at a later date.

**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.

Upcoming Event:

January 2009 Scuttlebutt

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Hi Comrades,

We had a very good meeting this month and had a lot of items to discuss. One of the main topics of discussion was the closure of Chapter 48 in Hayward. Our chapter will be adding a few more members as letters have been sent out to all their members and they can transfer to a chapter of their choice. Our adjutant will try and get a list of the members and send them a letter asking if they would like to transfer to our chapter.

It was nice to see a couple of new faces at our meeting. Pete Breed from New Auburn was able to attend his first meeting. Last month, I forgot to mention Clyde Shipman from New Auburn has joined our chapter.

We did discuss the upcoming 4th District Spring Conference to be held in Rice Lake. The tentative date is 18 April. We will need as many members as possible to assist during this function. We will need door prizes and also decide what we are going to serve for the noon meal. We discussed it at our December meeting but will have to finalize it at our March meeting. If you have any ideas, please contact our Adjutant John Fredrickson. We are always looking for new ideas.

We did discuss our Christmas Party and are planning on holding it sometime in February. Watch the February Scuttlebutt for dates and times.

As the year has come to an end, I hope that all members had a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2009. Remember, we do not hold meetings during January and February so our next meeting will be 09 March 2009.

Remember all our men and women serving all over the world to keep us safe. Say a big prayer for each and every one of them. May they all come home safe. God bless each and every one of you.

Upcoming Events:

  • January & February  -  NO MEETINGS
  • February ?? - Rice Lake National Guard Unit departs
  • 09 Mar 09 - Monthly Meeting
  • April  - 4th District Meeting at Rice Lake

God Bless, Love Ya

Yours in Comradeship,

Ben (Walking Eagle) Anderson
