November 2008 Scuttlebutt

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Dear Fellow Comrades,

It seems like I have been on the road most of this month. I started my annual post inspections on 02 October and inspected 7 posts this month. I have 6 more to complete in November and then hopefully I will be done. When I complete these last 6 posts, I will have visited all 33 posts in the district. My deputy inspectors will be completing the remainder of the posts that I did last year. Every post I have visited has been a learning experience as so many of the post have their own way of supporting the veterans in their community. I have also met a lot of veteran who do not attend district meetings and have made many new friends.

On 11 October Betty and I attend the C of A Meeting and Testimonial Celebration for the VFW Department Commander Gary Erickson and Auxiliary President Marla Morgan in Platteville, Wisconsin. I had never been to this part of our beautiful state and it was a very enjoyable drive. We had a great time.

I along with several other veterans have been working on a Christmas Party for the Rice Lake National Guard Troops. It is being planned for 13 December but we still do not have a firm location. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be attending with presents for the kids and food baskets for the married couples. We still have a lot of other details to work out but I know we can pull it off and have a great party.

On 27 September, we held a spaghetti benefit for the Gari Odenbreit family at the Veterans Center. We had a good turn out and raised a little over $1200 for the family. Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted during this fundraiser. The family could still use more assistance and if anyone is interested in donating contact me.

At the All Veterans meeting on 23 October, we decided to hold a Christmas Party on 14 December at the Veterans Center for ALL Members. This will be a great time for ALL Veterans to get together and have a good time. Mark the date on your calendar.

We need as many Veteran’s who can, to assist and attend our Veterans Day Ceremony on the 11th November.  After the ceremony, come down to the Veterans Center for our annual Stew Feed.

**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.

Hi Comrades,

What a great meeting. There were 17 members at this months meeting. We also had another new member attending our meeting and will be transferring into our chapter from Mesa, Arizona. Welcome aboard to Richard Vobornik. Our chapter is now at 101.28% and is continuing to grow.

Our corn on the cob & brat feed on 04 October 2008 didn’t do as well as expected, but there were a lot of other activities going on around the area. We did make a few dollars and everyone that did come for the meal really enjoyed it. I don’t think anyone went away hungry. I want to thank Bob Karpenske, Bill Dent and all members who did assisted during this activity.

We had 7 members from our chapter attend the DAV Fall Conference on 16-18 October. Steve Brunette and Tom Johnson attended the Service Officer training on the 16th and are now certified to assist veterans with the VA Paperwork. John Fredrickson, Joe Anderson, Lenny Shier, Ken Dolby and I attended the general session on Friday and also the Adjutant training on Saturday. There was a lot of new information provided during this years training sessions. We will provide the membership with all the new information learned at our next monthly meeting.

Our Chapter will be hosting the DAV 4th District Spring Conference in April 2009. We had a great time last time we hosted it and I know we can have an even better conference this time. We will need all members to assist and start planning for it now. We will need to get door prizes and also start planning a meal. We will discuss this more at our next meeting.

Remember all our men and women serving all over the world to keep us safe. Say a big prayer for each and every one of them. May they all come home safe. God bless each and every one of you.
