Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Hi Comrades,

We had a very good meeting this month. There were 16 members at our meeting and we also had two distinguished visitor, Department Commander Roger Dorman and 4th District Commander Terry McNitt were also present. Commander Dorman congratulated our chapter for all the hard work and good things that we do for our community and fellow veterans. He also wanted to thank the chapter for once again reaching our 100% membership goal for the year. As of our September meeting, our chapter is 100.64 percent membership for the year. We also have one more new member, Jodi Jolicoeur of Chippewa Falls and Ken Dolby who is transferring in from the Menomonie Chapter to add to our membership roles for the year. Welcome aboard to our newest members.

The biggest item of discussion was our upcoming corn on the cob & brat feed scheduled for 04 October 2008. Food will be served from 11:00 – 3:00 PM. We will need as many members as possible to come and assist with this event. Also please get the word our to all your friends to come and support the DAV. Thanks go out to Bill Dent for getting the corn and Bob Karpenske who once again volunteered to chair the committee to schedule this event.

Our Chapter will be hosting the DAV 4th District Spring Conference in April 2009. We had a great time last time we hosted it and I know we can have an even better conference this time. We will need all members to assist and start planning for it now. We will need to get door prizes and also start planning a meal. We will discuss this more at our next meeting.

DAV Fall Conference 15-18 October. There are currently 6 members who plan on attending the conference this year. Steve Brunette and Tom Johnson will be attending the Service Officer Training on 16 October. The rest of us will be attending other training and meetings during this event.

Remember all our men and women serving all over the world to keep us safe. Say a big prayer for each and every one of them. May they all come home safe. God bless each and every one of you.

Upcoming Events:

Dear Fellow Comrades,

It has been another busy month.  On 13 September I held the 9th District Fall Conference in Eau Claire at Post 305. Our Department Commander Gary Erickson was also in attendance. During the noon meal, Commander Erickson and I presented awards to Burger King, Wal-Mart, and the other business that donated and helped out with the ANGU Picnic held at Fort McCoy in August. After lunch, we had a very successful meeting and took care of several business items.

Speaking about the picnic at Fort McCoy on 20 & 21 August, I would like to thank all members who were able to assist. I would have loved to be there but I had to attend the VFW National Convention in Orlando, Florida and there was no way I could make it back on time. I have heard several outstanding comments about the picnic and they all reflect greatly credit to the VFW. Thanks again for you assistance.

I know that most of the membership likely won’t get this information until October, but we do have a fellow comrade who could use a little assistance. Gari Obenbreit family needs assistance to cover medical bills for their son. We will be holding a spaghetti benefit on 27 September to help the family out. If any member would like assist further, please call me and I can give you more details.

Post 2204 did gain another new member this month. After years of trying to get him to join, my brother Jim Fredrickson finally filled out an application. Welcome aboard Jim.

The month of October & November are going to be busy one for me. I start my post inspections and currently have 8 post scheduled for the month of October. I promised all the posts in the district that I would visit every post during my term as District Commander and I plan on keeping my promise.  It will be fun to visit the post for the first time and I always meet some very interesting comrades. Post Commander Ben Anderson will be riding along to most of meetings so it will be a fun time.

**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.

Upcoming Event:

11 Oct 08  - Commander & President Testimonial

& C of A Meeting (Platteville, WI)

21 Oct 08  - Monthly Meeting

Yours in Comradeship,

John L. Fredrickson
