March 2008 Scuttlebutt

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Hi Comrades,

February is always a very quite month with not much happening, so not too much to write about. Guess it must just be the calm before the storm. 2007 was a great year for our chapter and we accomplished many things. The most important of all was the support that we provided to the New Veterans Clinic (CBOC) in Rice Lake. Every time I visit them, they thank the DAV for what we did to help them out. A BIG Thank You goes out to ALL the members of the chapter. They did ask if any veterans have any extra cookies to drop them off at the clinic. Veterans who were required to fast before a blood draws really appreciate them afterwards.

Our first meeting of the year will be on March 10th and I hope to see several members attending. We have several items to discuss and start our planning for the year. If any member has an idea for a fundraiser or project for the year, please be at this meeting. We need to start working on the projects now. We need to know who is planning on attending the DAV 4th District Conference in April. We also need to know who is planning on running for the various chapter officer positions this year. Elections will be coming up in April/May.

Some good news to report, our records at the County Veterans Service Office are now locked up in new lockable filing cabinets. Nothing else has changed yet. There is meeting scheduled regarding possible relocation of the office toward the end of February. Hopefully by our March meeting we will know more information about a possible relocation.

Our membership for the year is great. We are now over our 104% membership for the year and we have a couple more veterans who are planning to join our great chapter. Welcome Aboard to all our new members. Hope you can make it to meetings this spring.

Remember all our men and women serving all over the world to keep us safe. Say a big prayer for each and every one of them. May they all come home safe. God bless each and every one of you.

Upcoming Events:

  • 10 March 08 - Monthly Meeting
  • 14 April 08 - Monthly Meeting
  • 26 April 08 - DAV 4th District Spring Conference (Chippewa Falls)

God Bless, Love Ya

Dear Fellow Comrades,

Some good news from the County Veterans Service Office, our files are now locked up in new lockable filing cabinets. There is still no word about the possible relocation but there is a meeting scheduled later this month to discuss the issue.

Post 2204 has done it again. As of 21 February we were at 103.81% membership. We gained 6 new members and still have 6 unpaid members. Sure is nice to see our post continuing to grow especially with several new Iraq veterans joining. Remember numbers do count and the more members we have, the more power we have when we represent you at the various meetings dealing with veterans issues.

Speak of Iraq, the Rice Lake National Guard will again be deploying to Iraq towards the end of year. They will be at Fort McCoy August 02-26 and will deploy sometime after that. We will once again be asking for donations of food items and other items that they will need. I have talked to them and asked if they could provide me with a list of needed items. Once I get their list, I will let all members know what they want.

Commander Ben Anderson and I attended the VFW Department of Wisconsin Mid-Winter Conference in Green Bay 15-16 February. There was a lot of information gained and we had a great time except for the return trip in all the snow.

Ben Anderson, Tom Puig, Herb Zimmer and I all attended the 9th District Conference at Altoona on the 23rd of February. This is the largest number of members from our post attending a conference that I can remember. I had several guest speakers at the conference and a lot of important information was presented to all members attending.

The 9th District Spring Conference will be held in Rice Lake on the 19th of April. We will need all members who can assist to be at this Conference. We will be working on the details at our March meeting and will finalize them at our April meeting.

I will be attending the National Community Service and Legislative Conference in Washington, DC on 2-5 March 2008. I am looking forward to this meeting and should have a lot of information to present to the membership at our March meeting.

**** If you know of any member who is sick or could use some sunshine, please contact Ted Kuchera at 434-3123.

Upcoming Event:

02-05 March  - National Conference (Washington DC)
18 March  - Monthly Meeting (Nomination of Officer)
15 April  - Monthly Meeting (Election of Officers)
19 April  -  9th District Spring Conference (Rice Lake)

Yours in Comradeship,

John L. Fredrickson

9th District Commander
